Sock Drive in Saanich South

Winter Socks for Everyone!
Last week was Groundhog Day – the day we turn to a rodent for weather wisdom. Marmots, groundhogs – same species so it makes sense for us to take Van Isle Violet's winter prediction over an east-coast rodent of another name. Sadly she decided that we will in fact enjoy another six-weeks of winter bliss. For the more science-minded among us, Environment Canada has been hinting about white stuff in our near future as well. Either way we are reminded that winter is still upon us, and sadly, its wrath is not over, not is it shared equally.

What more cold and wet means for some may be quite different than what it means to the more vulnerable members of our community. Warm, and dry can be a huge challenge for those that are living in the rough – and feet can be particularly vulnerable.

That's why we're once again asking the public to consider donating a pair – or four – of new,
adult socks. So that we might see that all of us are at lease somewhat warm and dry, until the spring takes over.

Saanich South came through with flying colours (colours, stripes, and even a tartan) when we made this call-out at my Constituency Office's Holiday Open House in December. It was a resounding success. And while we know that it was the holidays – when we're all feeling a little generous – we're hoping that this February you'll find the same giving spirit.

Whether it's the sentimental lovey-ness of Valentine's Day – or the connection of Family Day Long Weekend, if you feel like you have enough, please do consider giving to others that may not.

This February please consider dropping off new adult socks in our office. We will make sure that they get to the downtown agencies that work so hard to keep people warm and dry.

Our office is open Monday to Thursday from 9 am to 3 pm. Drop in anytime. We'll have a bin set-up in the lobby for quick drop-offs, or if you have a minute, come up to the second floor and say hello. Our community office is in the Price's Alarm building right beside the Bottle Depot Return-It Centre on Glanford Ave.

Thank you! Your donation will make a difference in the life of someone in our community.

Warmest (and driest) regards,
